OUR STORY

Founder and co-owner Daniel Carrasco is a 4th generation Tucson native. As the son to a cattle rancher, he spent weekends and summers in the Sonoran Desert, quickly learning how to work with his hands, wake up before the sun, and tend to live things. After graduating from Tucson High and going to the University of Arizona, he decided to go back to the ranching world and started a hay selling business, and would deliver packaged hay all over the western part of the country.

Founder and co-owner Maricella Carrasco also spent her childhood and adolescence in the Sonoran Desert in a small town in Sonora, Mexico. At a young age, she started helping her mother grow crops to help feed her and her seven siblings, form adobe blocks to expand their home for the growing family and maintained her studies. She graduated at the top of her class and moved to Los Angeles to find jobs and opportunity. She found both, and she also found Danny.

Both young and filled with an entrepreneurial spirit, they decided to expand the Hay Sale business and started selling the ocotillos to adjacent nurseries. When they learned they were pregnant with their first daughter, they decided to open up a shop that Maricella would run while Danny continued their delivery service.

An additional three daughters, a few decades, and thousands of ocotillos later you will still find them running the nursery and likely will interact with them. Their energy and enthusiasm for plants are contagious. Their hard work and dedication to their business are the reasons why they have kept their gates open since 1989.
